MailStore V24.2: Multi-Factor Authentication for Synchronized Users

We’d like to present a new version of our email archiving software today: Version 24.2 of MailStore Server, the MailStore Service Provider Edition (SPE), MailStore Gateway and MailStore Home is now available. New Features in MailStore Version 24.2

MailStore V24.2 has many new features that administrators and users of our email archiving solutions MailStore Server, MailStore SPE, MailStore Gateway and MailStore Home can look forward to. These are the new features in detail:

Multi-Factor Authentication for Synchronized Users

Once again, we’ve enhanced the security of our software. In Version 24.2, multi-factor authentication can be activated not only for local users, but for synchronized users (without OpenID Connect) as well.

Restricting Logins to Certain Clients Only

With V24.2, the option to log in can be restricted to certain types of clients. So, administrators can stipulate whether an individual user will be permitted access via Windows client, the Outlook add-in, web browser, IMAP protocol, command line client and the management API.

IRM-Protected Messages Can Be Archived in Unencrypted Format

Previously, emails could only be archived in encrypted form when using Microsoft 365 message encryption (IRM) and journaling. With MailStore V24.2, these emails can be archived, displayed and searched for in plain text, too. A precondition here is that journal report decryption has been configured via the “JournalReportDecryptionEnable” setting in Exchange management.

Updated Database

We’ve updated our software’s internal database engine to ensure that all our software features continue to run flawlessly. When MailStore V24.2 is installed, the master database will be updated automatically; however, you will need to update your archive storage in MailStore Server and the MailStore Service Provider Edition manually using the appropriate buttons.

Further Enhancements and Bug Fixes

We’ve also made a few minor improvements and bug fixes that aim to benefit the overall user experience. These include the implementation of a refresh button in the MailStore Gateway web console, the renaming of Azure AD to Microsoft Entra ID, as well as adding corrective information to certain input fields (e.g. when assigning email domains during MailStore Gateway configuration, or assigning archive names in MailStore Server or the SPE).

In addition, we’ve fixed the issue whereby administrators who had authenticated themselves via OpenID Connect were unable to change the compliance settings for archive accessing and deactivating password policies.

It’s also worth mentioning that we’ve updated the web access framework (Angular v17) to preserve our state-of-the-art technology. This is an important factor in terms of product security.

Please note that support for the Internet Explorer has been discontinued in Version 24.2.

Updated Certification: Meeting Data Privacy Requirements

As usual, the latest version of our software, Version 24.2 of MailStore Server and the MailStore SPE, has been certified by an independent data privacy expert.

The certification takes into account all relevant aspects of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and affirms that, when used appropriately, both MailStore Server and the MailStore SPE meet all the requirements governing the processing of personal data set out in the GDPR.
