MailStore – Exchange 2013 Managed Availability health monitoring probe emails are archived from the Journal mailbox into the folder “Unknown email addresses”
Summary
In MailStore Server or MailStore Service Provider Edition, when archiving the journaling mailbox of a Microsoft Exchange Server 2013, MailStore Server or MailStore Service Provider Edition stores emails from the Managed Availability health monitoring probe with the email addresses “HealthMailbox<guid>@domain.local” and “[email protected]” in the folder “Unknown email addresses”.
This issue was reported in (but not limited to):
- MailStore Server
- MailStore Service Provider Edition
Cause
Basically, MailStore Server or MailStore Service Provider Edition archive every email from a journaling mailbox.
Resolution
To prevent the emails from the Managed Availability health monitoring probe with the email addresses “HealthMailbox<guid>@domain.local” and “[email protected]” in the folder “Unknown email addresses” from being archived, you must either delete them in the journaling mailbox or suppress them entirely. Microsoft describes several possible approaches to do this:

As an alternative, you can define rules for the journaling mailbox in Outlook Web Access that move such emails into the “Delete Items” folder right after reception. In addition, retention policies need to be set up in Exchange to delete those emails permanently.
