Introduction
With the support of the Exchange Server Journaling functionality, MailStore can archive the incoming and outgoing e-mails of all users automatically. This is the only way to ensure that all e-mails are archived in their entirety.
The general advantages and disadvantages are discussed in chapter Archiving Incoming and Outgoing E-mails Directly.
Basic Functionality
Microsoft Exchange Server provides the option to take down all incoming, outgoing and internal e-mail traffic. At the time of sending and receiving, a copy of the respective e-mail is created and stored in a mailbox called Journal Mailbox. Additionally, the e-mail is provided with a Journal report containing information about the actual senders and recipients.
MailStore can be configured to archive this Journal mailbox in regular intervals. During this process, the e-mails from the Journal mailbox will be assigned to their respective MailStore users (i.e. their user archives) automatically. This means that, with this type of archiving as well, each user is able to view only their own e-mails.
Procedure
Step 1: Before the archiving process can be set up in MailStore, Journaling for the Exchange server has to be set up first. Depending on the version of Exchange used, please continue reading in the appropriate chapter:
Step 2: As soon as Journaling has been set up, the actual archiving process can be set up and started in MailStore. Please continue reading in chapter MailStore Configuration.
